The New York Yankees have reportedly discussed a trade for Miami Marlins star Jazz Chisholm Jr., per the New York Post's Jon Heyman.
Heyman also noted that the Seattle Mariners have also been linked to Chisholm.
"The Yankees have discussed Jazz Chisholm Jr., the Marlins' talented outfielder-turned-infielder," Heyman wrote. "The extent of the interest is unknown, but Chisholm likely would play mostly infield, a Yankees need.
"The Mariners are another possible landing spot for Chisholm."
The report comes ahead of the July 30 trade deadline as the Yankees look to bolster their roster to make a World Series run.
Chisholm, 26, has 11 home runs, 41 RBI and a .256 batting average through 89 games this year, on track to record career highs in all those categories. The center fielder, who has been playing second base this year, could help New York fill some holes in what is already a strong roster and help it continue to surge.
The trade rumors come as the Marlins seem to be heading toward a rebuild. They traded two-time batting champ Luis Arráez to the San Diego Padres for a handful of prospects earlier this season, the first move towards rebuilding, and could continue making moves ahead of the deadline.
Heyman reported in June that several teams, including the Yankees, are interested in reliever Tanner Scott, so he could be another piece on the move before the trade deadline.
Miami currently sits at the bottom of the NL East at 32-60 and has virtually no chance of reaching the postseason. Given their current position, building for the future could be the best plan of action for the Marlins this year.
