It’s certainly not a secret that the Chicago Bears have been shopping third-string quarterback Nick Foles this offseason, and to no avail.

But it’s found newfound life ahead of Tuesday’s final roster cuts, where the Bears are trying to find a last-minute trade partner to not only free up $4 million in cap space but a roster spot, as Chicago doesn’t need three quarterbacks on the active roster.

While Foles doesn’t have a no-trade clause, the Bears are only willing to trade Foles to a destination approved by him, which is absurd given the only thing the Bears owe him is his guaranteed money.

With the Bears willing to listen to trade offers for Foles, here are five potential landing destinations that would make sense.

New York Jets

The Jets have been a potential landing spot for Foles for awhile given the inexperience behind No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson. The battle for the backup quarterback job has come down to veteran Josh Johnson and inexperienced James Morgan and Mike White. But with so much uncertainty at the backup quarterback position, Foles could certainly be an alluring option, especially at the right price and with a quarterback on a rookie deal. The only problem might be the landing spot, as New York isn’t the most attractive destination.

Dallas Cowboys

Interestingly enough, Dallas’ backup quarterback from last season is their current QB1 heading into the season. And while the Bears might not be willing to trade Andy Dalton right now, Foles also fills the role of experienced, veteran quarterback who could step in for Dak Prescott, if that’s the case. When you look at the Cowboys’ backup quarterback situation, it’s not favorable with Cooper Rush and Garrett Gilbert battling for the backup job. While Prescott isn’t injury prone, it’s hard to ignore recent injury concerns with his shoulder sprain and recovering from last year’s ankle injury. Having someone like Foles on the roster would feel a lot better than some inexperienced players.

Atlanta Falcons

While the Falcons are set at quarterback with Matt Ryan, their backup quarterback situation certainly isn’t a favorable one as undrafted rookie Feleipe Franks and newly signed Josh Rosen are battling for the role following injury to AJ McCarron. Not a whole lot of experience or dependability there, which is where the need for an experienced veteran comes in. Foles isn’t going to be your starter, but he’s proven he’s at his best coming off the bench.

Detroit Lions

While you don’t often hear of trades happening within the division, the Bears have been shopping Foles all offseason, and it would be good news to find a taker, even if it’s the Lions. Lions backup quarterback Tim Boyle needs surgery on his right thumb, so the timing couldn’t be better for Detroit to pull off a trade for a proven veteran to serve behind Jared Goff. But the thing to watch here is the destination, given Foles has done something in the Bears’ eyes to warrant control over a potential trade destination. Detroit isn’t exactly a favorable landing spot.
