The Pittsburgh Steelers and trade rumors have gone together like Bonnie and Clyde this offseason. They were centered around the Justin Fields rumor mill, and of course ended up acquiring the former first-round pick from the Chicago Bears. They also traded away a few pieces, sending Kenny Pickett and Diontae Johnson to the Philadelphia Eagles and Carolina Panthers, respectively.
Pittsburgh has also been in the midst of trade rumors to bring in another receiver to put on the boundary. Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, Courtland Sutton, and DK Metcalf are names that the Steelers have reportedly been interested in and reached out to each player’s respective team.
However, one writer projected a trade package from the Steelers to send to the Seattle Seahawks for Metcalf that would be a wild overpay.
John Buhler of FanSided proposed that the Steelers trade George Pickens, 2025 first and third-round picks, and 2026 second and fourth-round picks in exchange for Metcalf.
Considering what other receivers have been traded for, there is zero chance the Steelers would trade this much, or need to trade this much, for Metcalf. Stefon Diggs was traded for a 2025 second-round pick. Jerry Jeudy was traded for a pair of Day Three draft picks. Diontae Johnson was traded for a sixth-round pick and Donte Jackson. Even back in 2022 when A.J. Brown was traded, he was traded for a first and third-round pick.
If and when the Steelers trade for a receiver, the package in which they give up won’t be this massive.
