The New York Jets already have plenty of former Green Bay Packers on their roster. Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard, Adrian Amos, and Billy Turner are among the names that followed quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the big city. Unfortunately for the Jets (and the Packers), Rodgers tore his Achilles just four snaps into his tenure with New York, effectively ending his season (and the Packers’ hopes of getting their first round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft).
Still, the Jets have managed to remain competitive and Rodgers himself has not ruled out a possible return to the field yet this season. As it stands, New York is one of several 4-3 teams, tied for the seventh and final playoff spot in the AFC.
In other words, the Jets are still shooting for a NFL Playoff berth. As such, they were interested in upgrading their team before the NFL trade deadline passed, and according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, they were going after Rodgers’ old favorite weapon.

The New York Jets Attempted to Trade for Former Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Davante Adams
On Saturday, Schefter reported that:
“The Jets called the Raiders before last Tuesday’s trade deadline to see whether there was any way Las Vegas would consider trading star wide receiver Davante Adams to New York, league sources told ESPN.
“The Jets wanted to reunite Adams with former Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers, add another wide receiver to complement Garrett Wilson, and send a clear signal that they were doing everything possible to win this season.
“Trading for Adams was a move the Jets had debated, discussed and planned for throughout the summer, sources told ESPN, as New York was waiting for the right moment to reach out to Las Vegas to land the three-time All-Pro.”
It is interesting that the Jets had debated adding Adams during this past offseason, although not surprising considering the rumored list of players Rodgers had that he wanted to play with (both Rodgers and New York general manager Joe Douglas denied the existence of such a list).
Will Davante Adams Be on the Move After the 2023 NFL Season?
The Las Vegas Raiders, Adams’ current team, is certainly in a position that he never thought they would be when he asked to be traded there. He recently revealed that had he known that his friend, Derek Carr, was going to be released less than one year later, he likely would not have gone to Vegas.
This statement, along with the firing of the Raiders’ head coach and general manager, have indicated just how poor a position Las Vegas is in. Adams could very well be on the move again next offseason should he push hard enough.
Las Vegas sent the Packers a first and second round pick for Adams back before the 2022 NFL Draft. Clearly entering a rebuild, it is likely that they would be searching for similar compensation should they decide to trade him away.
The Jets will already be without their 2024 second round pick, which they will send to the Packers. While they can always trade future draft picks, there may be more suitors that are able to trade more immediate draft capital.
In any case, it will not be surprising if Adams is playing on a different team next year, and seeing him reuniting with Rodgers in New York would certainly make the Jets immediate favorites to compete for a Super Bowl.
