The Jets made a last-ditch effort at reuniting Aaron Rodgers with one of his favorite targets from his Green Bay Packers days.
According to an ESPN report, the Jets reached out to the Las Vegas Raiders before Tuesday’s trade deadline to see if they would consider a trade for star wide receiver Davante Adams. The Raiders told the Jets they were not interested, just hours before the firing of coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler — the same personnel that signed off on the decision to reject the Jets’ request.
Another source told ESPN that there “was no chance in hell” that the Raiders would trade away the three-time All-Pro. If Rodgers hadn’t suffered from an Achilles injury, next Sunday night would be his first time squaring off against Adams as the Jets make the trip to Allegiant Stadium.
Rodgers and Adams were an unstoppable duo during their time in Green Bay. In 2021, Adams became the first player in team history to with three, 100-catch seasons (2018, 2020-21). He also set single-season, franchise records for receptions (123) and receiving yards (1,553), becoming the first Green Bay receiver to earn first-team All-Pro honors in back-to-back seasons since Sterling Sharpe (1992-93).
