Despite a rough season overall and a brutal playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers, Jordan Poole could be back with the Golden State Warriors in 2023-24.
Per The Athletic's Anthony Slater and Shams Charania, the Warriors are "still" hesitant to move Poole because of his age, upside and because his value is diminished coming off a disappointing year.
However, The Athletic's Tim Kawakami added he thinks "it's more likely than not" at least one of Poole or Jonathan Kuminga gets traded this offseason, and the Warriors could at least "see what the market" is for Poole:
"And Poole will have some value around the league. Maybe not as much as he had when he signed the deal, but part of the reason the Warriors paid that price was that they knew Poole would have trade value.
"I think the Warriors will see what the market is for Poole. They could use a tougher backup guard. They could use somebody who can score tough points. They were missing a 'change-up,' as Curry described it, against the Lakers' two-layer defense, guarding the perimeter and then having Davis sitting in the lane. The Warriors need a scrambler. Maybe they can trade Poole for a scrambler who doesn't make as much money, which would check two boxes."
The Warriors made a big bet on Poole being a key part of their future by signing him to a four-year, $140 million extension in October.
It seemed like a reasonable gamble at the time. He had a breakout 2021-22 season with 18.5 points per game while shooting 36.4 percent from three.
The Michigan alum played a big role for the Warriors in the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics. His 38.5 percent success rate from behind the arc was second on the team among players with at least 20 attempts, trailing only Stephen Curry (43.7) among players with more than 16 attempts.

The arrow was pointing straight up for Poole, who was only 22 when the Warriors won the NBA title.
Player development, unfortunately, is not always linear. Poole appeared in all 82 games this season and averaged a career-high 20.4 points per contest, but he had the second-worst field-goal percentage (43.0) and three-point percentage (33.6) of his four-year career.
Things got worse for Poole in the playoffs, as he shot 40.0 percent or worse from the field in 10 of 13 games. His frustration seemed to boil over after the Warriors' 104-101 loss to the Lakers in Game 4 on Monday.

If the Warriors want to make any significant roster changes this offseason, Poole would seem like the most obvious trade candidate. He's still very young and has shown tremendous potential at his best.
But there's no denying this season was a disappointment for Poole. Opposing teams that might have interest in him could be reluctant to give up anything of significant value given the uncertainty of what kind of player he will settle into being.
