PHILADELPHIA -- Baseball fans typically clamor for a ball, bat, batting gloves or anything remotely memorable or collectible from their favorite player.
But sometimes, on especially rare occasions, a baseball player wants something from a fan.
Phillies slugger Bryce Harper wanted a cap from a fan sitting next to the Phillies’ dugout in Thursday’s series finale against the Padres at Citizens Bank Park. Harper has been sidelined since Sunday because of a PRP injection in his right elbow, but he spotted the fan next to the Phillies’ dugout and made his move.
He got the fan’s attention, pointed to his maroon Phillies cap -- which he signed -- and asked for the fan’s cap in exchange.
The fan happily made the trade.
“Just really liked the hat, so I signed mine and asked if he wanted to trade,” Harper said. “He was really cool about it and made it happen. Always fun interacting with the fans here at home.”
