Falcons can save a chunk of money by trading away their star DT
The Falcons have seemingly been on a purge of their roster, either by trades or simply letting players sign elsewhere.
Gone are Russell Gage, Josh Harris, and Foye Oluokun who have signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Jacksonville Jaguars, respectively.
And of course, the big news came out when the team announced that long-time quarterback, Matt Ryan, had been traded to the Indianapolis Colts. It was huge news as he had been a part of the Falcons organization for 14 years.
There is now a chance that the team keeps the purge going and decides to trade away their defensive tackle, Grady Jarrett.
Currently, he is the highest-paid player on the team and was rumored to possibly be a part of a Deshaun Watson deal, but we all know how that turned out.
Atlanta can elect to trade Grady and save $16.5 million against the cap with a $7.3 dead cap charge. Certainly, that is a lot of money to save, but it is also a lot of dead cap to add to their already long list of players not on the team who count against the salary cap.
It would be sad to see Grady go, but the NFL is a cruel business.
