NY Jets 'actively monitoring the cornerback trade market' - The Jet Press

gamagana.blogspot.com

The NY Jets are expected to be major players at the trade deadline this year as they look toward the future. But while most expect them to be sellers, they could also look to acquire someone in a trade.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on Tuesday that the Jets are one of a few teams that have been "actively monitoring the cornerback market" in recent months.

Now, it's unclear if this is still the Jets' philosophy following a loss in London that dropped the team to 1-4. But they have shown interest and Fowler believes they're a team that could make a move for a cornerback.

A couple of names specifically mentioned were Kyle Fuller and Bryce Callahan of the Denver Broncos who have both received interest from teams.

Denver has a surplus of cornerbacks and both players are set to be free agents after this season, but with the Jets not exactly looking to contend in 2021, it seems unlikely that they would make a move for either.

Despite this report, it does seem rather improbable that the Jets would trade for a cornerback. This is the same team that opted against adding a veteran at the position all offseason insisting that they wanted to lean on their young players.

Well, those young players have exceeded any and all expectations through fives weeks. Rather than the glaring weakness that many expected the Jets' cornerbacks to be, you could easily argue it's been a position of strength for them.

Bryce Hall and Michael Carter II have played some excellent football through Week 5. Brandin Echols and Javelin Guidry have each shown promise. And the Jets still have Isaiah Dunn and Jason Pinnock riding the bench.

Why would the Jets trade for a veteran cornerback now of all times?

Their young cornerbacks are playing well and they're not looking to compete. It's hard to believe this is a move they would make.

The Jets could still be active on the trade market over the next few weeks. One name to keep an eye on is Marcus Maye, although he's not the only name that could get moved.

Next. NY Jets: Ty Johnson talks Robert Saleh, Zach Wilson, and much more in exclusive interview. dark

The Jets might make a trade or two prior to the deadline, but I wouldn't bet on the Jets trading for a cornerback.
