Sharks ramping up trade talks with teams around the league: Sources - The Athletic

gamagana.blogspot.com

With the offseason underway, the San Jose Sharks' trade talks are heating up, sources tell The Athletic.

The club would prefer to make a so-called "hockey deal," or a trade that involves established NHL players on both sides, but is also hoping to gain more draft picks in the upcoming draft. San Jose has a chance to reshape its roster with the expansion draft, entry draft and beginning of free agency all upcoming.

In March, general manager Doug Wilson said the Sharks will undergo a reset of their own, similar to the Montreal Canadiens' plan from 2018. Montreal reached the Stanley Cup Final this year for the first time since 1993 but lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in five games. Meanwhile, San Jose finished 21-28-7 and seventh in the West Division.

Right winger Kevin Labanc, defenseman Radim Simek and center Dylan Gambrell are among the Sharks' potential trade pieces.

This offseason, there is a league-wide trade freeze from July 17-22, during which only the Seattle Kraken is permitted to make deals. The Kraken roster will be announced on July 21. The entry draft, in which the Sharks have the seventh overall pick, is on July 23-24. Free agency opens July 28 at noon.
