Raffle planned to occur to help fund Destination Clare Art Sculpture Walk - The Morning Sun

As a part of a fundraiser for the Destination Clare Art Sculpture Walk, community members can win a custom Devil’s Rope Studio sculpture.

The Destination Clare Art Sculpture Walk is intended to be an art loan program where artists can submit their work and potentially sell their sculptures.

“In 2020, I brought the idea of doing a art loan program in Clare to the Clare County Arts Council and that’s how it started,” Jeff Best, the artist with Devil’s Rope Studio, said. “This will be a perpetual event with new sculptures coming in each year.”

The committee will take submissions and select 10 sculptures from artists in the Midwest and the sculptures will reside in locations around Main Street in Clare for a year.

“We’ll market those ten sculptures with hopes to sell one or two in order to help the artists as well as fund the next years sculpture walk,” Best said. “The Clare County Arts Council will personally try to purchase at least one of the 10 sculptures in order to make it a permanent art piece for the community.”

The sculpture walk is intended to occur in spring 2022. Currently, a raffle is planned for Aug. 26 at 8 p.m. at 202 W. Fourth Street as a way to help fundraise for the sculpture walk.

First prize will be a $1500 custom sculpture by Best.

Best is a Clare resident who owns Devil’s Rope Studio and specializes in custom barbed-wire sculptures. Much of the material from his work comes from reclaimed barbed wire.

“I make and sell them all over the country, primarily through art loan programs such as what we’re organizing for the city of Clare for the spring of 2022,” Best said.

The second prize is an $1000 Jay’s gift certificate and the third prize is either a ‘Stay & Play’ in Clare or a cash prize of $500.

Raffle tickets can be purchased by contacting the Clare County Arts Council, or texting or calling Best at 989-420-9804. Community members can also email Best at bestoutdoors7395@gmail.com.
