Aaron Rodgers is back with the Packers after a spat that lasted most of the offseason. And it looks like another familiar face will return to Green Bay with him.
Randall Cobb is on the verge of being traded to the Packers, per multiple reports. The veteran receiver, who is currently with the Texans, confirmed via his Twitter account that he was likely on the move.
Apparently, this was a planned homecoming. Rodgers specifically requested that the team trade for Cobb, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
As the #Packers work to finalize QB Aaron Rodgers’ reworked contract, the trade of old friend & current #Texans WR Randall Cobb is also waiting to be finalized (with the cap in mind). All indications are both should happen, and that the Cobb trade was a specific Rodgers request.

It makes sense that Rodgers would want a reunion with Cobb. During Cobb's eight seasons with the Packers, he was one of Rodgers' favorite receivers. The second-round pick (64th overall) in the 2011 NFL Draft posted 470 catches for 5,524 yards and 41 touchdowns as Green Bay's top slot receiver. In his best season, Cobb racked up 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns on 91 catches and made the Pro Bowl.
IYER: Why Aaron Rodgers reported to Packers training camp
The Packers have struggled to find a solid slot receiver in Cobb's absence. They drafted third-round rookie Amari Rodgers, but Cobb can provide a veteran mentor ahead of him on the depth chart. Besides, Cobb already has chemistry with Aaron Rodgers and the reigning MVP wanted him back. As such, trading for him makes sense.
Cobb, 31, has spent the past two seasons of his career with the Cowboys (2019) and Texans (2020). He is set to enter the second year of a three-year, $27 million contract he signed with Houston. Cobb's contract will likely be restructured as part of a return to Green Bay.
For the Texans, moving on from Cobb is logical. Houston isn't going anywhere this season and already has a crowded receiver room. The team just traded for former Bears second-round pick Anthony Miller, a 26-year-old who can take over for Cobb as the team's primary slot receiver.
Miller will give the team more long-term upside at the receiver spot, so for Houston, exchanging Cobb for an asset seems sensible.
