A small boat will ply Capitol Lake waters on May 25 to collect water quality samples.
The Department of Enterprise Services will follow the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife New Zealand mudsnail decontamination procedures following the work. New Zealand mudsnails are an invasive species. The lake is generally closed to boating, fishing and other uses because of the danger of spreading the destructive snails to other waters.
The samples are being collected monthly May through October in support of an Environmental Impact Statement for Capitol Lake-Deschutes Estuary long term management that includes a water quality analysis.
