Teddy Bridgewater made waves in recent days after unfollowing the Panthers on social networking sites (2021, folks), sparking speculation that his tenure in Carolina is going to be a short one. Per Joe Person of The Athletic, "San Francisco is among the teams that have called Carolina to gauge the Panthers’ interest in potentially trading Bridgewater," leading fuel to the fire that Bridgewater could be on his way out.
Bridgewater signed a three-year, $63 million pact with the Panthers before the 2020 season. His middling performance this past season (15 touchdowns to 11 interceptions) has led some NFL folks to believe that the Panthers are looking to move on from the passer, with a dead money number of a manageable $10 million if he's traded prior to June 1.
Carolina is rumored to be hot after Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, who is said to never want to play another snap with Houston again. At press time, Houston isn't so much as answering phone calls regarding Watson's availability.

If the Panthers end up trading Bridgewater, they may have to turn to another veteran option in free agency or take their chances in the 2021 draft. There are several first-round passers rumored to go early, just out of reach from where the Panthers pick (No. 8).
Niners GM John Lynch recently said that San Fran has to improve the back end of the QB room behind Jimmy Garoppolo, with the team trading starts between CJ Beathard and Nick Mullens over the past two seasons while Garoppolo has nursed injuries. A trade for Bridgewater would certainly solidify the room.
