Amid previous reports that the New Orleans Pelicans were focused on trading point guard Lonzo Ball and shooting guard JJ Redick, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that the Pels are focused on three Northeast teams as preferred destinations for the 36-year-old sharpshooter.
Redick is on the final year of his contract, earning just over $13 million, but is struggling from the field. He’s scoring just under eight points per game in 20 minutes per contest but is shooting just under 30% from three and 33.6% from the field. The Pelicans are rebuilding and would prefer more minutes go to young guards Nickiel Alexander-Walker and Kira Lewis.
The veteran Duke product has a family home in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn, which would make the Nets an obvious choice with a nearly identical salary in the injured Spencer Dinwiddie to potentially flip in a trade.
Redick enjoyed two of the best seasons of his career with Philadelphia before leaving to New Orleans in free agency before last season. Boston is currently 20th in the NBA in 3-pointers made per game and just 24th in attempts and may decide to target Redick prior to the March 25 trade deadline.
As Charania noted, Redick was a healthy scratch in the Pelicans’ prior two games.
