The lone movement prior to the trade deadline was Charlie O'Connor from Peithos to McSallies. Approved by the D.O.L.L. commissioner, Peithos received a 2021 second round draft pick, a 2022 supplemental draft pick, a 2023 expansion draft pick and a washing machine – a nod to a movie favorite Semi-Pro – for O'Connor's talents.
With both teams tied with one win apiece in the D.O.L.L. regular season, McSallies came back Friday night in the black uniforms and Peithos in the Duke traditional white jerseys and blue shorts.
It was a nip and tuck four quarters all night under the lights at the Cohan Practice Fields as neither team led by more than two goals over the 60 minutes. Peithos led 2-1 after the first quarter, but a fast-break goal from Owen Caputo tied the game. Cameron Mulé provided the feed to Owen Caputo after graduate student transfer defenseman James Sullivan picked up the ground ball on the defensive end and cleared to start the fast break.
McSallies and Peithos traded goals throughout the second quarter and the two teams headed into halftime knotted at 5-5. Mulé gave McSallies its first lead of the game, 3-2, but consecutive goals from Kevin Quigley and Brennan O'Neill launched Peithos back in front 4-3 midway through the period.
Owen Caputo had different ideas as he scored a pair of goals in 26 seconds to put McSallies up again, 5-4 with 5:21 remaining. However, just like in the past two games, the other team had an answer. The respond this time came from freshman Aidan Danenza with a solo effort to send the teams into halftime tied.
The back and forth continued in the second half. McSallies went up first with a goal from JP Basile. Peithos youngsters O'Neill and Dyson Williams responded for another lead change at 7-6 with 8:31 remaining in the third quarter.
Graduate student Reilly Walsh tied the score for McSallies to end the third and Owen Caputo added two more, while Cameron Badour had another to help the visiting squad extend the lead to 10-8 late in the fourth. Peithos scored a goal late to make it 10-9, but came up just short as McSallies took a 2-1 lead in the D.O.L.L.
Game four time will be set his week, as the fourth week of the league gets underway with Monday morning practice.
