Washington, D.C. — For the past three years, President Donald Trump has preyed on wage stagnation and job losses in working-class, industrial communities to disrupt the established approach to trade. But like much of the rest of the Trump administration’s economic policy, its trade policy has not worked for working families.

Going forward, the United States faces immense challenges around trade, from the vulnerabilities of concentrated and distant supply chains revealed by COVID-19, to the imperative to address climate change, to evolving conflicts with China, to the need to rebuild a middle class with economic power for workers.

The chaos of the past few years, and the past few months, has made clear that it’s time to renew a progressive vision for how America should stay engaged in the world, to promote both economic growth and national security. Please join the Center for American Progress for an online discussion with a diverse group of progressive voices to chart a path forward on progressive trade policy.
