John Ceniza and Mary Flor Diaz gave the Philippines their first podium finishes in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games Weightlifting competitions, capturing Silver in the Men's 55-kg category and bronze in the Women's 45-KG category respectively, Sunday afternoon at the RMSC Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.
The 21-year old Ceniza scored 112 on the Snatch and 140 in the Clean and Jerk to garner a total score of 252. Vietnam's Gia Thanh Lai topped the category with a gold medal-clinching 264, while Indonesia's Surahmat Wijoyo scored a total of 250 to take bronze.
Meanwhile, the 20-year old Diaz, a 2019 Philippine National Open Champion, scored a 70 in the Snatch and an 89 in the Clean and Jerk for a total score of 159.
Diaz finished behind Vietnam's Thi Huyen Vuong, who captured gold with a total score of 172, and Indonesia's Lisa Setiawati who captured silver with a total score of 169.
