Jose Mourinho insists VAR ‘killed the game’ with Heung-min Son red card in Chelsea defeat, reacts to Antonio R - talkSPORT.com

Jose Mourinho has declared that he felt VAR killed the game as Tottenham were beaten at home by Chelsea on Sunday.

Willian scored twice to make the Blues 2-0 winners, with Heung-min Son’s red card a major talking point in the second half.

Mourinho reacted by telling reporters: “My opinion is that the VAR is for ‘clear and obvious’ mistakes and not for situations where some people say it is and some people say it isn’t.

“The reality of the VAR is the penalty, 60,000 people in the stadium, all of them would say, ‘Clear penalty.’

“The VAR is to help the game, it’s not to kill the game.

“Today the VAR helped the game in the first half with the penalty because that’s the reality of the game, it was a penalty.

“And then in the second half they killed the game.”

The match was marred by an incident in which Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger was subjected to alleged racist abuse from the crowd.

Mourinho reacted: “It’s sad. It’s sad and the referee followed all the protocols and everybody on the pitch accepted that.

“And not just accepted, it is accepting with sadness.

“I didn’t know what was going on, I was frustrated that the game was stopped once more.

“But then when [referee] Anthony Taylor told us the reason why, then we are totally united, so sad thing but protocols were followed.

“The club is a very proud club in relation to all these questions, so the club internally will try everything to show how strong Tottenham is against racism.”
