The second semifinal of the 2019 Copa América features the two-time defending champions and the surprise of the tournament, a team that finished the group stage in embarrassing fashion, but somehow finds itself 90 minutes away from a place in the final.

Copa América: Chile vs Peru

Chile did not arrive in this tournament with the respect that the defending champions deserve, and with good reason: La Roja missed the World Cup after a disastrous 2018 and new manager Reinaldo Rueda did not inspire any confidence in his first few games. But there is something about Chile and the Copa América these days. As soon as the tournament started, they went back to being a very solid defensive team and a smart, hard-working and talented attacking team that eliminated Colombia in the quarterfinals on penalties after dominating the 90 minutes and scoring two goals that were disallowed by VAR in regulation.

They come into this one against a Peru team that was destroyed by Brazil and looked very bad in the final group stage match. However, the quarterfinal against Uruguay was a reminder that this team is well coached and can cause anyone problems. Peru survived an onslaught against La Celeste and took the game to penalties, causing the upset of the tournament and making an entire country believe they can do the same to Chile and reach an improbable final.

This is going to be a great match between two very good attacking teams, and it’s one you can’t miss.
