Condolences are pouring in from public figures following the passing of former first lady Ani Yudhoyono. She died in Singapore at 11:50 a.m. local time after battling blood cancer since February.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo expressed his condolences in a televised press conference from the Bogor Palace.
"We, the Indonesian government and Indonesian people, express our deep condolences on the passing of Ibu Kristiani Herrawati, Ani Yudhoyono, the wife of Indonesia's sixth president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, at age 67 years old," Jokowi told a press briefing at the Bogor Palace on Saturday.
"I invite the Indonesian people to pray for her to be given the best place by God's side, and for her family to be given the strength and patience during this difficult time."
He also expressed his condolences through his Instagram account @jokowi, where he said that Ani was an inspirational figure.
Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong offered condolences through a letter addressed to the former president, noting that the former first lady had made a significant difference to the lives of Indonesians.
“Her deep commitment to service and to helping her fellow citizens touched Indonesians of all backgrounds and made a significant difference to their lives,” he said.
Singaporean President Halimah Yacob gave condolences on behalf of the Singaporean people in a letter addressed to the former president. She highlighted Ani’s compassion, which she said had made her well-loved by everyone around her.
“During your Presidency, many remembered her for the grace and strength in supporting your term of office. Her dignity and resilience in a very trying situation was also clear to all when we met in March 2019. Her passing is a loss to her loved ones and the people of Indonesia,” she wrote.
Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Wan Azizah Wan Ismail offered condolences through her Twitter account @drwanazizah, expressing hope over Yudhoyono being given the strength to face the difficult time.

Danish Ambassador in Jakarta Rasmus A. Kristensen also took to Twitter to send his condolences.
“Please accept my genuine condolences over the passing of Mrs. Ani Yudhoyono. Our minds and prayers are with the #Yudhoyono family throughout this grieving time,” Rasmus said on his Twitter account @DubesDenmark.

Other public figures also followed suit, posting kind words on social media.
“Inallilahi wainna illaihi rojiun, I pray for Mrs. Ani Yudhoyono to rest in peace. Al-fatihah,” Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo said through his Instagram account @ganjarpranowo.
“Innalillahi wa innailahi roji’un. Our deepest condolences for the passing of the former first lady, Mrs. Ani Yudhoyono,” West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil said on his official Instagram account @ridwankamil.
