Real Madrid squared off against Barcelona in the first leg of the semi-final in the Copa Del Rey. Here’s a look at the player ratings.
While Real Madrid was held to a one all draw to Barcelona it was still a great performance. With one of the more disciplined performances across the pitch this season, the Whites were able to secure an away goal and limit the damage.

Defence
Keylor Navas – 8
Navas was clinical for Real Madrid as he came up big for his side saving his team the embarrassment several times. The lone goal conceded wasn’t entirely his fault as the team could have done a better job to fill out the gaps.
Dani Carvajal – 7
Carvajal had a good game and not in the fashion that we have become accustomed too. Dani focused more on his defence with two tackles, clearances, and interceptions along with one blocked shot. Solari’s instruction keeping him further back proved to be the right one as he held down the right wing, limiting attacking options for Barcelona.
Sergio Ramos – 7
The infamous Sergio Ramos, in his 40th appearance in a Clasico, it was only fitting for him to pick up a yellow card. Debates could be had as to whether it was or wasn’t but many eluded to the idea that it was his reputation that warranted the quick caution. Focusing on his play Ramos held down the fort leading Madrid with six clearances, along with two blocked shots and a key tackle on Lionel Messi.
Raphael Varane – 7
Once again the Frenchman was like a wall for Real Madrid. Like most of his teammates, it wasn’t the flashiest of performances but he got the job done, and well at that. Varane had four clearances as well as two blocked shots and tackles. What was remarkable to witness was his pass. When he was caught out of position trying to put out a fire he quickly returned to his zone leave no margin for error.
Marcelo – 6
On paper, Marcelo seemed to have a great game, but watching it live as well as a full replay the Brazilian looked like somebody else. Marcelo had very little spark and pop to him on the wing and only really went forward when Marco Asensio came on. He struggled to keep up with Barcelona winger Malcolm who caused havoc all night long.
